Missed Survivor and CSI last night. Had to finish up the tombstones for today. They turned out fabu if I say so myself. The last two that I worked on had the headstones bleeding! I hope to post a couple photos up. I'm very proud of the work that Hb and I did. Mil also put the finishing touches on one of them too.

Today is the day for our office decorating challenge. Everyone did a wonderful job and I'm really excited to know that everyone really got into the spirit of things. I can't wait for Hallowe'en day to decorate our house.

Had dinner with the il's last night. It was so good to see them. They looked nice and relaxed from their vacation. We had a nice visit and I came home with goodies. I have a wicked Hallowe'en costume thanks to my fil. I can't wait to wear it to work tomorrow. I love it and said that if my fil ever wanted to get rid of it I would take it in a heartbeat.

Also went and picked up my scanned negs yesterday. I asked a favour of my former colleague of mine and she gave me the call yesterday afternoon. I'm so glad that I finally have it done and now I can get those prints to all those people that we said we would get to them, just over two years later.

Went to HD and FS yesterday. Picked up some supplies for our Hallowe'en decorations. We made tombstones/headstones last night and I think they look great! Hb is so creative and it's absolutely incredible. I can't wait to use them. What's even better is that we get to use them twice this years, once at my work Hallowe'en Decorating Challenge and again at home. I hope that these last for a while. I'm tempted to spray a varnish on them so that they keep better. I'm not even sure how to store them so they stay pristine. Hopefully me or the hb will have photos up of our Hallowe'en project.

Man I feel like a kid!

The grass looks amazing, okay maybe not super duper beautifully green and lush, but I'm still glad I have a lawn, a yard. We spent a couple hours watering it after work. Yes a couple of hours. We had to move the sprinkler into four different areas to cover the whole thing, almost the whole thing. There is still a six foot strip on one side that hasn't been sodded but that's only because the sod people are using it as a truck highway. A dump truck highway. Those things are huge! The top of the truck easily reaches our second floor window. Anyhow back to my gushing of finally have a backyard. They also didn't sod to the front but again that's okay, most of my backyard is done. Our cat can actually go outside now. She's been itching to get outside. Now I just have to get her a lead until we get a fence and then she'll have a landmark so she won't get lost.

We're getting grass today!!!

We came home after work and saw that our immediate neighbours had grass and by the time they were heading off for the day they had just started on our backyard. So this morning, heck right now, they are probably already starting on our lawn. WooHoo!

We got our blinds yesterday and they fit! Hb put them up and they look great and they work and no more paper blinds. Now we've got to figure out blinds for the other rooms. Maybe we'll get some inexpensive ones until we figure out what we want.

Our neighbour across the back was offered a job last week after his contract ran out at another company. He went in and signed the papers yesterday and starts tomorrow. Yay for him!

Made meatloaf yesterday. Yum. It turned out better than I thought it would especially since I've never made it before. Hb said it was better than his mom's. He's so sweet but I think his mom makes a mean meatloaf. Leftovers for lunch today :)

I can't wait to get home to water our lawn.

So I was out last Thursday and Friday. Stayed home sick. I've never stayed home sick two days in a row before. Usually one day of rest is all I need but this time it was different. Anyhow those days went by uneventfully...well sort of. The construction vehicles woke me up in the early mornings. They were putting grass/sod down on our neighbours yard. This week it'll be our turn. Some of them were working all weekend. One guy in particular worked all day yesterday. Rumour has it that they are trying to get all the grass down by the end of the week. I hope we have grass today. That would be nice, but I won't hold my breath.

Saturday was pretty quiet too. It went by in a blur and I can't remember what we did. I think we did some groceries but other than that stayed home and chilled.

Yesterday we had our neighbours over for lunch. Satisfied my craving for a Muffaletta. Mmmm... I have the leftovers for lunch today. I also made soup last night, Butternut Squash and Apple, it was quite tasty and both hb and I brought some to work too. We also made chocolate chip cookies except that mine toasted too much on the bottom and I scraped the bottom and surprisingly they didn't taste burnt. Holy run-on sentence grammar-man.

Back at work this morning. Tonnes of stuff on my desk and chair. Yikes.

We just had our first Hallowe'en decorating meeting for our team. It was great! We've got a lot of ideas and enthusiasm. I'm really looking forward to the end result. It was really really awesome. Really!

No grass when we got home last night. Bah. Hopefully we'll get it soon. I want my grass! I want my grass!

Tuesday, October 19, 2004

We got more dirt yesterday and saw pallets of sod nearby. Yay! I hope this means that we'll have grass soon. I am really looking forward to the grass and I'm really hoping that they'll get it in in time because I want the sod to get a chance to root and hibernate over the winter. Hb and I were trying to figure out the watering times for our lawn. We'd have to water pretty damn early since we don't want the roots damaged especially since it's gotten really cool over the last little while.

After work yesterday we dropped off our blinds at the courier depot to be shipped back again for the second time. It should arrive sometime today and hopefully we'll get it back by the end of the week. It's been well over a month since we ordered them and I can't believe it wasn't even corrected the first time around. Grrr.

On a happier note we bought some Hallowe'en decorations and some Christmas decorations. I'm really excited about decorating our house for Hallowe'en. We even bought some treats to give out. That'll be so much fun!

The weekend went by quick. Spent part of Saturday running errands and finished off the evening having dinner over at our neighbours home. We had hot pot and it was so yummy. We came home with full bellies. Earlier in the day we went to drop off our blinds to have repaired again but the depot was closed. That was annoying considering this is the second time. I hope that everything gets resolved this time around because I want my blinds!

Sunday went out for dim sum with my cousins whom I haven’t seen in about 5.5 years. That wasn’t too bad. A bit awkward at first but it was okay. The conversation was kept pretty neutral. After lunch we headed home but we stopped off to look at a couple hallowe’en decorations first. I saw a couple of really cool things that I am thinking of getting but I’m going to hit the dollar store first. One of these cool things was a fuzzy spider about the size of a grapefruit that hangs on the ceiling. When it hears a sound it’ll come crawling down. I saw a bat one like that except that the eyes light up on the bat. Hb made a wonderfully yummy dinner last night. I made sure there was enough for leftovers for lunch today. We also stopped over at Krispy Kreme and picked up a treat for ourselves too.

Friday night we went out for dinner with our immediate neighbours. We went to a great restaurant, Gordon Biersch, a brewery restaurant. It was really yummy and really great that we could have a nice night and just hang out. The food was good, the beer was good, the company was good. Our blinds came in but they didn’t fit. The company only made one of two repairs/changes. Grrrr…

Last night was great. We had a nice supper and visit with my il’s. During dinner/dessert we were talking about pets and il’s want to get a dog in the near future. Hb and I want to as well. We want to get a Shih-Tzu and so do my il’s. We may get brothers. That would be really cool. I hope that we can afford to get a puppy. I really miss having a dog. We even came up with names for our future dogs/family members. Il’s are thinking of naming their puppy Winston and we want to name ours Mochi.

So I'm browsing through the online paper and come across an article that I think Hb would enjoy. The caption is Salmon-watching time in GTA parks. I sent the link to him and a little while later this is his reply...

how horrible is that..
i saw the title of that article, and thought...

salmon watching in grand theft auto? strange... they've added fishing
to that game too!

yikes.

I just laughed. Only a gamer would think that first.

Went shopping after work and got some new pants. Hb also got a new pair of pants too. Yay! We also treated ourselves out for dinner and went to a burger joint that an aquaintance recommended. The burgers were very good and we'd definitely go back. The atmosphere was fun too.

So last night I bit the bullet and called my cousins whom I haven't spoken to in about 5 years. The one I spoke with was shocked that I had called and really wanted to get together. So the whole lot of them (5 brothers and sisters plus spouses and maybe kids) plus hb and I and my mom are going for dim sum on Sunday. My aunt and her two kids will also be joining us too. And we're treating. Hopefully the food will be good at this restaurant.

I forgot to mention that we also went to Ikea and got some replacement light fixtures for the terrible 70's builder standard light fixtures. The nice thing was that these new lights are really cool and cheap too! That's always good.

Pot luck at work today. My contribution is a layered nacho dip. I'm looking forward to seeing what else will be brought to the pot luck. I hope the dip works out well. It's a modified recipe. I did taste test each layer and they all tasted good on their own so hopefully they mesh well.

So it was turkey weekend and we hosted on Sunday. Our parents and a few family members had dinner with us. We had a 21lb turkey to feed all 12 of us not including the fresh bread, stuffing, mashed potatoes, turnip & carrot mash and brussel sprouts. Pumpkin pie and mango mousse cake was for dessert. Wine, coffee and tea were our beverages of choice that fine night. The entire thing went really well. I was nervous that the bird would flop on us but it didn't. Yay! Even hb's uncle's allergies didn't act up with the cat walking around and stuff. I am so glad that we had yesterday off too. We needed the break from Sunday except that I saw my family twice yesterday. A good thing was that we had dim sum and that was so good. I really miss my dim sum. Dinner last night was good too. Last night's dinner was a test dinner for my family dinner next week or the week after. My mom told me that my cousin's gave us lucky money for our nuptials recently and now we have to take them out for dinner because it's the way to do things. Grrr... why oh why but what can you do. Chances are there will be at least 2 tables if not 3. It depends on whether their kids are going to be joining us or not. I guess we'll find out.

Thursday, October 07, 2004

So today I drove in. Usually hb and I drive in together but he wasn't feeling well so it's just me today. The drive wasn't too bad but I'm hoping to escape a little early today. Let's just hope that my meeting this afternoon goes smoothly and quickly. Damn, maybe I should've scheduled it for this morning. Oh well.

Right now my nose is stuffed up. I can't breathe through my nose and that is not nice. I've already gone through a mug of soup and a large glass of water and it's only been a couple hours since I've been in. Bah. I think these might be allergies but then again I've been fighting a cold too. Grrr.

So it’s hump day and it’s gone by rather quickly so far. Now that I’ve said that I’ve jinxed it.

I forgot to mention over the weekend that it was Head of the Trent at the university I attended. I didn’t go for the very first time since first year and it felt weird. A friend of ours picked up a beer mug for us (Thanks Sunkez!) to add to our collection. We have two of each since first year except this year we chose to just go with one. I think we will put away a good half of them since they are taking up valuable cupboard space.

Last night was a late night. We had a visit with hb’s uncle and ended up coming home late. I was tired this morning. The only thing is that the last few nights I’ve woken up around 4am and then gone back to sleep. I mean fully wide awake. It actually took me a few minutes to get back to sleep this morning so I called the cat over and gave her a belly rub while trying to fall asleep. She purred and purred, especially since she had not seen us since early early yesterday morning. She missed us and I missed her too. I love our cat and I couldn’t imagine life without her.

So this is the third time that I’ve tried to post and hopefully this time it won’t timeout. As always I’ve lost the previous posts so I going to write this out in Word and then paste it over. I’m such a smart cookie.

The weekend was good. Went trolloping around looking for a chest freezer. We were successful and we found one that we like now we just have to wait for it to go on sale in a couple weeks. So I’m happy about that. Not to say that I don’t like our freezer now but we could use the extra space. Case in point, we are hosting Thanksgiving dinner and we don’t have room for the bird. So we’re storing it at my il’s til it’s time. Saturday evening was spent out. We had dinner with good company. It was nice. Dinner was fabu, we had steak and bratwurst and veggies. On top of that we had shrimp and wine and whiskey to end the night. We brought dessert, which was a mango mousse cake. It was delish and everyone enjoyed it.
Sunday we spent the morning cleaning and grocery shopping. We invited friends overs for supper. We were meeting our friends new beau for the first time. We had a almost homemade dinner. On the menu was whole wheat and honey bread, Caesar salad, lasagna and pumpkin pie. I have to say it was a very tasty and filling dinner. On top of the pumpkin pie our guests brought over a fruit flan with a raspberry filling instead of custard. It was good too. We had a really nice visit with them and it was nice to meet this new beau. He seems like a nice guy though a bit quiet but I’m guessing that it’s because it’s a first time meet.

** Happy Birthday Upper Elevation**

Okay I'm going to try and post again and hopefully this time I won't lose it.

Saturday was good. We were going to go to the Fall Home Show but didn't. We did trollop around looking at chest freezers. We found a winner and now we're waiting for it to go on sale next week thanks to the sales person that tipped us about it. Went out for dinner and had steak and bratwurst and veggies for dinner. Along with them we had a shrimp ring for an appetizer and had wine with dinner too. Ended the evening with a mango mousse cake (which we brought) and coffee and whiskey. What a night. I had a nice time.

Sunday was spent cleaning and grocery shopping in the morning. We had company over for dinner. The menu consisted of homemade wholewheat and honey bread, homemade caesar salad, homemade lasagna, homemade pumpkin pie for dessert. Our guests brought over a Fat Bastard white and a fruit topped and raspberry jam layered pie. I've never had anything like it before. The evening went well. We met the new beau for the first time. Seems like a nice person though a bit quiet but then again if I was in their position I would be too. Clean up actually was pretty quick. We were able to make everything before they arrived and clean it all up too. We made our bed time and here I am partially awake and having leftovers for breakfast.

The weekend was good. Trolloped around looking at chest freezers then headed off for dinner. Dinner was fantabulous. We had steak and bratwurst and veggies along with wine and whiskey to finish the night. We brought dessert and that was a mango mousse cake. It was just as tasty as ever. Mmmm...I just love that bakery.

Sunday we had company over for supper. We cleaned up the house in the morning and went grocery shopping. On last night's menu a caesar salad (my fil's famous one), homemade whole wheat and honey bread, homemade lasagna and homemade pumpkin pie. Our guests also brought over a bottle of Fat Bastard white wine and a fruit/raspberry pie dessert. By the end of the night we were stuffed!

The whole weekend was good but it went by way too quickly.

A colleague of mine is leaving today. It's her last day and I am sad to see her go. I do hope that her future position will be good, that the people there will treat her well and she's happy there. The field I'm in is a small one. It is difficult to find good people and she's one of them. At least we are giving her a proper send off. She deserves it.
